Fall evenings get dark early, and that’s when a dead or flickering pool light gets noticed. Suns Out Buns Out Pools repairs pool and spa lights and upgrades older lights to LED across Spring, The Woodlands and Conroe — owner-operated, so the person who diagnoses the problem is the one who fixes it.
Common Pool Light Problems
LED Upgrades
If your pool still has an older incandescent or halogen light, a failure is the natural time to switch to LED. LED lights use less energy, last longer, and many offer color modes and light shows. Connected to an automation system, they can run on a schedule or from your phone alongside the pump, heater and spa.
How a Light Repair Works
- Power off at the breaker, then test the circuit and GFCI.
- Pull the fixture from its niche and inspect the seal, lamp and cord.
- Repair or replace the fixture — or upgrade to LED — and reseal.
- Reinstall, restore power and confirm it works, including color modes.
Part of Looking After the Whole Pad
Lights rarely fail alone — they share a circuit and often a controller with the rest of your equipment. That’s why we handle lights alongside equipment repair, heater and spa service and weekly pool service.
Choosing a Replacement or LED Light
- Fit: the new light has to suit your existing niche so it seals and mounts properly.
- Voltage: pool lights come in low-voltage and line-voltage versions, and the replacement must match the circuit.
- White or color: color LEDs add shows and modes; plain white is simpler.
- Control: if you have automation, pick a light that works with it.
Spa Lights Too
Spa lights fail for the same reasons as pool lights: failed seals, worn lamps and wiring. With more spa use in fall and winter, a working spa light matters. We repair and replace them along with the pool light, usually in the same visit.
Where We Work
Common Questions
Why is my pool light tripping the GFCI?
A tripping GFCI usually means water has reached somewhere it shouldn’t, often inside the light fixture or its wiring. Don’t keep resetting it; turn it off and have it checked, because underwater lighting and water leaks are a safety issue.
Why is my pool light cloudy or full of water?
Moisture inside the lens means the fixture’s seal has failed. The light needs to come out of the niche, be resealed or replaced, and the circuit checked.
Should I upgrade to LED pool lights?
LED lights use less energy than older incandescent lights, last longer, and many offer color shows. If your old light has failed, it’s usually the right time to upgrade.
Can pool lights be controlled from my phone?
Yes, when the lights are connected to an automation system. Lights can then be scheduled or switched from the app along with the pump, heater and spa.
Do you have to drain the pool to replace a light?
Usually not. Pool light fixtures are normally installed with extra cord coiled in the niche, so the light can be lifted out and brought up to the deck for service without draining the pool.
Why did my pool light stop working after a storm?
Heavy rain and power surges are common triggers. Water can get into a fixture with a weak seal, and surges can trip the breaker or GFCI. Check whether the breaker or GFCI has tripped; if it trips again when reset, leave it off and have the light inspected.
