Pool automation puts the pump, heater, spa, valves and lights on one controller — and on your phone. In fall that means heating the spa on the drive home instead of walking out to the equipment pad in the cold. Suns Out Buns Out Pools installs, programs and repairs automation systems across Spring, The Woodlands and Conroe.
What Automation Handles for You
- Pump schedules that change with the season instead of running the same hours all year.
- Heater and spa control — switch to spa mode and start heating from the app.
- Valves that move automatically between pool and spa.
- Lights on a schedule or from your phone.
- Freeze protection on systems that support it, keeping water moving during hard freezes.
Systems We Install and Service
AquaLink Automation Wired In
Filter, pump and the AquaLink panel on the wall — the pad runs from a phone.
A Pentair-Controlled Pad We Maintain
Multiple pumps, pre-filters and labeled plumbing on one controller.
Automation Problems We Fix
- App or remote won’t connect to the system.
- Schedules not running, or equipment not responding to the controller.
- Valves not switching between pool and spa.
- Heater, lights or salt system not showing up after other equipment was changed.
Salt systems tie into automation too — Pentair describes its IntelliChlor cells as integrating with Pentair automation, which we cover in our IC40 vs Plus40 guide.
Adding Automation to an Existing Pool
- We look at the equipment on your pad and what you want to control.
- We tell you what’s compatible and what isn’t, before anything is ordered.
- Install, wire and program the system, then walk you through the app.
Automation, Salt and Heat Working Together
Automation earns its keep when the rest of the pad is connected to it. Tie in the heater and spa valves and a single tap switches to spa mode and starts heating. Tie in the lights and they come on at dusk. On compatible salt systems, chlorine production follows the pump schedule. The more of your equipment is on the controller, the less you ever need to walk out to the pad.
Signs Your Automation Needs Attention
- The app shows equipment as offline, or changes don’t take effect.
- Pump runs at the wrong times, or not at all, after a power outage.
- Spa mode switches but the water never heats.
- A component was replaced and the controller no longer recognizes it.
Many of these come down to programming or configuration rather than failed hardware, which is why we check the setup before recommending any parts.
Where We Work
Common Questions
What can pool automation control?
Typically the pump schedule, heater, spa mode and valves, and pool lights, from a control panel or phone app, depending on the system and the equipment connected to it.
Can automation be added to my existing equipment?
Often, yes. Whether it makes sense depends on the equipment already on your pad and what you want to control. We’ll look at your setup and tell you what’s compatible.
Which automation systems do you work with?
We install and service Jandy AquaLink and work on Pentair automation systems, which we see on pads across Spring and The Woodlands every week.
Why is automation useful in fall and winter?
It lets you heat the spa from your phone before you go out, keeps pump schedules right as the season changes, and on systems that support it, can run freeze protection automatically.
Does pool automation need Wi-Fi?
The schedules run from the controller at your equipment pad. Controlling it from your phone requires the controller to be connected to your home network, so a weak signal at the pad can cause app problems while the system itself keeps running.
Will automation work with the pump and heater I already have?
It depends on the brand and model. Many pumps, heaters and salt systems connect directly to automation from the same manufacturer, while older or mixed-brand equipment may need adapters or may not be supported at all. Checking compatibility is the first step, before anything is ordered.
